Perovskite-Based Hyperbolic Metamaterials: Synthesis and Characterization

Energy icon, disabled. An orange lightning bolt.

Hyperbolic metamaterials offer an exciting platform to create physical phenomena not possible in nature, such as high-spatial-frequency and super-resolution. The current development of hyperbolic metamaterials relies majorly on the nanofabrication of metal/dielectric multilayers or nanowires arrays, whose performance is largely limited by the size of the fabricated period. Here a novel hyperbolic metamaterial at the atomic scale has been developed. A facile solution-based technique was developed to control ion-ion and interlayer interactions. X-ray diffraction and photoluminescence studies were conducted to verify successful synthesis of the perovskite and its materials structure. Optical properties were characterized using ellipsometry and optical spectra.
