Gas Permeation and Separation Studies of COF Based MMMs

Plans to synthesize mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) with PDMS, polymeric matrixes, and microporous ACOF-1 and TpHz covalent organic frameworks (COF) powder. These membranes will be tested for the separation of gases and potential xylene isomers separation. Investigating different filler loadings (0%, 5%, and 10%) with ACOF-1 and TpHz individually. Testing their separation performance using a gas permeation cell. The gas permeation cell, constructed following ASTM 2476-20 standards in Dr. Jin’s lab during Fall 2023, is now being employed to explore low permeance COF membranes’ behavior. It can also test MMMs. Adherence to ASTM standards ensures the rigor and accuracy of experiments in understanding gas permeance mechanisms through Mixed Membrane Membranes. These insights are crucial for developing more efficient gas separation processes and applications.
