Monte Carlo Simulations of Dense Particle Packings: Applications to Material Self-Assembly and Batteries
There is interest in pursuing solid-state batteries as an alternative to the liquid/polymer gel batteries mostly used today. Sintering has been proposed to process solid-state batteries, but powdered particles can pack differently from one iteration of sintering to another which overall impact the efficiency of solid-state batteries. The research team is focused on studying packing theory through Monte Carlo (MC) simulations to better understand how particles will pack depending on particle shape and occupied volume/surface.
