Ambient Ozone Removal Using Cement-Based Materials

Urbanization has increased air pollution in the lower atmosphere, thereby calling for the development of methods of active and passive air pollutant removal from the troposphere. Work was undertaken to characterize the air pollution reduction capabilities of a titanium dioxide (TiO2)-coated cementitious material. The surface was exposed to known concentrations of O3. The system was run in the presence and absence of ultraviolet light, and the removal of ozone over the surface was characterized.
