Silicon Netting for Surgical Organ Isolation
Laparotomies surgeries are performed to explore and examine a patient’s abdominal cavity to diagnosis any issues or complications a patient may present with. An issue with laparotomy surgeries is maintaining accurate visibility in the abdominal cavity. Along with the current abdominal retractors, lap pads are often crudely used as a cushioning and isolation device. The proposed solution to these issues arising from lap pad use is through the creation of a silicon mesh netting that is malleable, serializable and able to be attached to a retractor being used, providing a decrease surgery time and in organ damage.
