Students’ Motivation for Taking Human Systems Engineering (HSE) Classes
New courses in Human Systems Engineering (HSE) are hypothesized to provide students with an understanding of the limitations, abilities and needs of users, resulting in better and more efficient designs. An important first step for integrating HSE concepts into engineering education is to assess current students’ attitudes about these human-centered principles. Based on a literature review, several questions are being added to a broader survey currently being implemented by Dr. Roscoe and colleagues. These questions will help educators further understand the affective, behavioral, and cognitive components of students’ attitudes toward HSE, which may influence how human-centered perspectives are taught.
