Characterization of Silk Fibroin Electrospun NanoScaffolding
Electrospinning is used to create the backbone that cells attach themselves to, allowing humans to grow 3D tissue and artificial organs. This research project looks at how different variables such as ambient temperature, humidity, polymer concentration, applied voltage, and flow rate affect silk fibroin electrospun nanoscaffold features, such as fiber diameter, length, porosity, permeability, as well as their physical and chemical properties. By systematically altering these independent variables, one can observe their effects on scaffold properties on interest.
