Recent advances in drones for consumer and professional applications have enabled a wide range of video-based analysis tasks in the air, including urban landscape survey, farmland area counting, and crop yield prediction. However, in the field of transportation system analysis, the capability of “seeing through the traffic from the above” has not been exploited with drones. For example, to count traffic, the Department of Transportation still needs to send a team of survey personnel to various road segments and count each individual vehicle manually, which is inefficient, slow, error-prone, and limited in the survey area. To address this issue, proposing a system and a method for traffic analysis with drone videos.
