Sex Differences in the Bilateral Frontal Plane Ankle Stiffness During Standing with Different Weight Bearings

Health icon, disabled. A red heart with a cardiac rhythm running through it.

Ankle stability is essential for human locomotion, and ankle sprains are prevalent musculoskeletal injuries. This research will use a robotic platform to apply position perturbation to the ankle and measure corresponding ankle torque using force plates. The ankle stiffness will be modeled using the non-parametric system identification method, and the ankle angle will be measured using a goniometer. The study will advance knowledge in the health field by exploring the relationship between gender and ankle stiffness and could aid in developing medical and robotic devices to assist those with lower extremity disabilities.
