Develop Polymer Composite from Silica Aerogel for Heat Insulation

Energy icon, disabled. An orange lightning bolt.

Many homes use heaters and air conditioners depending on the time of the year therefore there is a need for some insulation to maintain the temperature within the homes. The objective of this research was to develop a polymer composite from silica aerogel to be used as heat insulators. The goal was to investigate the properties of silica aerogel and how mixing at different ratios with a polymer will affect the thermal properties of the polymer composite. A thermal conductivity test was performed on the composite formed. Future research will focus on improving the heat insulation of the polymer composite developed.
