Pavan Turaga
Director and Professor, School of Arts Media and Engineering
Pavan Turaga joined Arizona State University in 2011 jointly with the Schools of Arts, Media and Engineering and the School of Electrical, Computer, and Energy Engineering. They received tenure in 2017 and were promoted to full Professor in 2022. Over the twelve years they have been at ASU in this joint position, they have initiated collaborations with media designers, artists, scientists, and engineers, on problems related to health and wellness, wearables, and eco-conservation more recently. Their research in machine learning has resulted in new algorithms for geometrical analysis of feature-spaces which leads to increased robustness in several end-applications.
They received the National Science Foundation's CAREER award in 2015, a Best Paper award from the Deep Learning meets Geometric Computing (DLGC) workshop in 2023, a Best Paper Honorable Mention from IEEE Winter Conference on Applications of Computer Vision (WACV) in 2021, and a Best Paper Award in 2015 from the Computational Cameras and Displays (CCD) Workshop.
