Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Plastic Waste

Sustainability icon, disabled. A green leaf.

The hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of waste plastics with algae and different catalysts will allow for the study of the effect of feedstocks on the HTL product distribution and help SRP convert plastic waste from electrical cable insulators into useful products. The research will address sustainability goals by investigating a solution for plastic waste and producing oil products that can be upgraded into fuels, recycled into new plastics, or used for other value-added purposes. The end goal is to create a circular lifecycle for plastic materials.
