A Detailed Guide for the Systematic Design and Development of a Research-Grade Differential-Drive Robotic Ground Vehicle

As research in robotics continues to grow, there will be a continuing demand for low-cost robotic research platforms. The purpose of this research is to develop a detailed guide – accompanied by videos – that will permit a student with very limited background to systematically design and develop a low-cost differential-drive ground vehicle that can be used for a variety of advanced research activities. These may include, but are not limited to, precision tracking of a prescribed path, mapping via lidar, autonomous navigation, rapid high-definition image processing, vehicle/object/person following, and much more.
